The Process
Description: This introductory session will showcase the building blocks of the NYSED Program Approval process. Topics covered in this session include the advantages of having a NYSED Approved CTE program, the general components of an approved program, the schedule of the application deadlines, and who to involve as you go through the process.

Structure & Logistics
Description: This session of the Program Approval series will explain the process of assembling stakeholders, reviewing curriculum, acquiring self-study program data, and collecting input from business and industry, all of which are essential to a successful NYSED Approved CTE Program.

Program Content and CFM
Description: In this session of the NYSED Program Approval Series, participants will learn the expectations for curriculum review, including the content standards for all CTE courses. This session will cover what applicants should consider when deciding on program content – from academic and technical standards to including curriculum maps and crosswalks. Participants will also learn about the Career and Financial Management requirements for all NYSED Approved CTE Programs and how those requirements align with the NYS Learning Standards.

Integrated & Specialized Credit
Description: In this session of the NYSED Program Approval Series, participants will learn about the Commissioner’s regulations for Integrated and Specialized Credit approved programs. This session will also cover more information on crosswalk maps and tools available to schools.

Employability Profiles
Description: In this session of the NYSED Program Approval Series, participants will learn about the importance of Employability Profiles, which are a valuable tool to both educators and students. Employability Profiles document a student’s growth and attainment of technical knowledge and skills, work-related skills, endorsements, and licenses throughout the CTE program of study. In this session, participants will learn about what qualities Employability profiles identify, what information should be included on them, and how to build an appropriate profile for your program.

Work-Based Learning and Technical Assessments
Description: In this session of the NYSED Program Approval series, participants will learn about work-based learning and technical assessments. This session will cover the Work-Based Learning Manual, the certifications needed for WBL coordinators, and the components of a successful and appropriate technical assessment, which includes three (3) parts: a written exam, a skills demonstration, and a locally developed project/portfolio.

External Review and Final Steps Before Application Submission
Description: This session of the NYSED Program Approval series will cover the final steps of the Program Approval process: whose signatures are required for the application? How does the application get submitted to NYSED? In this session, participants will learn what they need to check before submitting their application.

Amendments after Approval, Final Questions
Description: In this final session of the NYSED Program Approval Series, participants will learn about the NYSED Amendment form should they want to make any changes to their CTE Program after their program has been approved. For example: if any changes are made to the program content, technical assessment, or program faculty, those changes must be requested and approved. How and why to maintain a CTE program once approved will also be discussed with emphasis on data collection and maintenance. This session will also be a space where participants can ask any remaining questions about the program approval process.
