The two-year Automotive Technology program at the H.B. Ward Technical Center at Eastern Long Island Academy of Applied Technology (Eastern Suffolk BOCES) provides students with theory and practice in the use of tools, special equipment, technical manuals,computerized service equipment, service specifications, diagnosis and methods of repair through teamwork, problem solving and critical thinking skills, in preparation for careers in automotive technology.

The program holds articulation agreements with twelve institutions of higher education. These articulation agreements provide students with three to eleven credits and/or advanced standing.

In the first year of the program, students earn the ASE certificate in Maintenance and Light Repair. In the second-year, students earn certification from ASE as an Automotive Service Technician.Other industry certifications available to students include the NYS Inspection License, Snap-On Multi-Meter Certification, and the ASEA/C and Refrigerant Certification.

Over the course of the past few years, students in the AutomotiveTechnology program have received various awards and recognitions,including at the National Competition sponsored by GNYADA.In 2017 and 2018, the students in this program placed in the GNYADA regional and state competitions. In 2016, a student received the NYS Vanguard Award. Many students have also placed in SkillsUSA regional competitions.
