The Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda UFSD’s Pre-Engineering Academy is one ofthe four Ken-Ton Academies, which also includes programsin business/finance, computers, and information technology. The Pre-Engineering Academy offers students a contemporary STEM experience, where they gain exposure to engineering design, robotics, prototype development, automation, electronics, and computer science. The required Project Lead The Way (PLTW) courses and the electives provide a mix of learning opportunities, including prototyping using modern equipment and traditional hands-on fabricating.
Pre-engineering students participate in a wide variety of projects within the CTEsequence. Undertakings include assembly-line design and fabrication, robotics andautomation design, digital electronic circuit projects, 3D modeling projects, CNC(computerized numerical control) programming, and prototype fabrication and 3D printing.Additionally, all students must complete a capstone design project in which they direct all efforts leading from design throughfabrication.
