An Introduction to Supporting Homeless and Transient Students
Description: This workshop will provide CTE teachers with an introduction to approaches for supporting their homeless students, beginning with an understanding of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, and available assistance from the federal, state, and local levels, as well as strategies to implement at the classroom level to foster academic success. In addition, an overview of both identifying and supporting transient student populations will be included. The session will conclude with a guided discussion.

LGBTQIA Youth: Creating Safe Environments for Children
Description: School climate is composed of numerous factors, including not only the level of physical safety at school, but also the extent to which members of the school community feel valued and welcomed at school. LGBTQIA students experience bullying at higher rates than their non-LGBTQIA peers, often with serious consequences. This workshop will describe the differences between gender identity, gender expression and sexual orientation to help educators build safe and positive learning spaces for all students.
