John Bowne High School
Agriculture Program

 The Agriculture program at John Bowne High School is a comprehensive four- year program located adjacent to a year-round 3.8-acre farm near Queensborough Community College.

It is the only school in NYC with a working farm, and one of the two schools in the city that have an agriculture program. Students explore veterinary medicine, floriculture, landscape architecture, animal laboratory sciences, plant and animal science and research and design coursework throughout the program. Work based learning opportunities connect students to the larger community through their work at local farmers markets. 

Articulation agreements with SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Farmingdale, SUNY Delhi, and Delaware Valley University provide students with credits entering college. Key partnerships offer students work experience, scholarships, and many students have found employment upon graduation through partner companies. 

The John Bowne Agriculture program has received CTE Industry Partnership Awards, and awards from NYAAE and NAAE.

Building Trades Program

The Building Trades program at McKinley High School in Buffalo, NY offers a world class educational experince for students interested in careers in the building trades. The program includes carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and heating, ventilation & air conditioning components and offers a fully integrated academic course-load, college articulations and industry recognized credentials. 

The community connections are strong within the Building Trades program,with multiple business partners, college articulation agreements, and a mission-driven capstone project that provides students the opportunity to witness their learned skills transform the lives of families within their own community.

The Building Trades program has articulation agreements with Erie Community College and Alfred State – SUNY College of Technology. Additionally, through its P-TECH 2 grant, students are eligible for dual enrollment at Alfred State College. The courses are offered at the high school, and students earn college credit at the same time. These partnerships give students the opportunity to experience college-level coursework, visit collegiate facilities, and meet with post-secondary instructors.The articulations and dual enrollments represent a total of 72 credits over 21 courses!

william Floyd High School
Cosmetology Program

 The Cosmetology program at William Floyd High School is a two year program offered to juniors and seniors. The program grew out of student interest and economic outlook for salon services in the region. 

Students engage with industry professionals in the classroom when stylists from local salons visit to share expertise via demonstrations and trainings. 

An articulation agreement with SUNY Farmingdale through the University in the High School program provide students with 3 credits entering college. Alumni partnerships through the Alumni Association support the students through donations used to purchase required cosmetology kits. 

The cosmetology students at William Floyd placed 1st in the SkillsUSA VI Regional Competition.
